Chief executive Harald Lone is teaming up with long-time broker pal David Harvey on a new project that aims to consolidate owners in a ‘very fragmented market’

Newport Shipping is drawing on an owner and broker relationship dating back three decades as it looks to launch what it claims to be the first global handysize bulker pool.

Newport chief executive Harald Lone is leading the new initiative for 25,000-dwt to 35,000-dwt vessels alongside experienced dry cargo broker David Harvey, now of Helm.

Ecoships claims 15 per cent increase in fuel efficiency

Ecoships has announced some results from use of its process and performance evaluation system, claiming that it has recorded up to 15 per cent fuel efficiency increases on some of its vessels by using a range of software tools.

The company, a subsidiary of Newport Shipping Group, is using an adapted version of the Six Sigma DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control) technique, which Ecoships claims has led to both reduced fuel consumption and emissions.

The Ecoships’ Greenlotus 32 is a 32,500 dwt geared, wide hatched, handy-size bulker with a propulsion plant based around a de-rated, Tier III compliant MAN B&W SG50ME-B9 two-stroke main engine driving a large diameter, fixed pitch propeller.
